Abstract

In an analysis of Red in blue trilogie by Franco-Cameroonian author Léonora Miano, this article explores possibilities of reparation between African and Afro-descendant societies fractured by the transatlantic slave trade. Regrouping three theatrical texts, Red in blue trilogie presents the lands of slavery and the African continent as spaces deeply affected by the triangular trade. All territories represented in the works are marked by traumas stemming from the violence of European colonial and human trafficking enterprises. This study focuses on the theme of fraternity in the theatrical texts “Révélation” and “Tombeau” to observe the development of a reflection on the rejection of the Other (the foreigner, the other community, the other territory, etc.) in historical and contemporary relations linked to the slave trade. It also examines the possibility of creating solid relationships between communities impacted by slavery. Two central questions guide the textual analysis: How does Miano express a desire to foster fraternity between Sub-Saharan societies while building memory of the orchestration of European slavery in Africa? How does the author insist on forging strong relationships between peoples who were deported during the transatlantic slave trade and those who continued to inhabit Sub-Saharan Africa?
